Tenants should see their house as a home

When it comes to seeking out new buy-to-let homes to live in, potential tenants should no longer look upon the house they are viewing as a temporary measure, instead seeking something they may stay in for years.

With mortgage conditions still difficult, many people are now staying in the rental sector for years, and this is pushing the amount of time they live in one property to all-new highs.

Sue Hopson, brand standards director at Martin & Co, said that potential renters should look upon houses as a possible home where they my reside for a long period of time.

"People tend to be staying in properties longer, the average length of a tenancy has actually grown over a number of years and it continues to grow every year. You are looking for something that you can consider as a home on a long-term basis and not just for six months," she added.

Ms Hopson also said that it is vital to ensure that you carry out maths before viewing a home, as being able to afford the property you want is important in the long run to stop yourself from running into debt.ADNFCR-1222-ID-801486452-ADNFCR
