Students offer 'good market for investors'

The rental market provided by students is a strong one for buy-to-let investors and should be helped further with the announcement of government plans, according to the National Landlords Association (NLA).

In response to the proposals that will see the creation of 20 new campuses in the coming years, the NLA claimed that these markets will offer "long-term" opportunties for those interested with them.

The cyclical nature of the student market also offers investors a degree of stability, suggested vice chairman at the organisation John Socha, as they know such residents will return each year.

Moreover, successful landlords also tend to purchase a few homes for this purpose, Mr Socha remarked.

"You tend to find that, once a landlord has gone through the agony of letting their first [student property], they either buy more or give up," he commented.

The New University Challenge will look to create more higher education positions, universities secretary John Denham has stated.ADNFCR-1222-ID-18494491-ADNFCR
