Student accommodation still a lucrative market

Student accommodation still a lucrative market

In times when the market is struggling such as now, more investors will turn their eye towards buy-to-let houses, with student properties being particularly popular at the moment.

According to Charlie Cunningham, chief executive at FreshStart Living, the sector supporting these kinds of homes in Lancashire in particular is thriving, mainly because there are large numbers of students and a short supply of housing for them.

He said that the rental market for students has seen some £2 billion already invested in it during the first six months of this year, adding that more than half of this was seen outside of London.

Mr Cunningham also advised potential investors that looking at new homes may not always be the best way to go, as those with quirks can often perform better.

"Renovated mill conversions are doing well for landlords at the moment, as they tend to be more affordable the new build properties, which are often overpriced," the expert concluded.ADNFCR-1222-ID-801486445-ADNFCR
