Stay connected with Gillingham

The large town of Gillingham could be the ideal base for families who work in London but want more space at home.

There is plenty of property for sale in Gillingham as its strong transport links make it very popular with couples and families who are looking for the right balance of work and lifestyle.

Located around 40 miles away from the capital, the Kent town has regular train services to London's Victoria station - taking less than an hour.

For those who need to be close to Charing Cross, there is a slightly longer travelling time but it is still a relatively easy commute - especially if you can fit in some extra work during the journey.

In terms of education, there are around ten primary schools in Gillingham, as well as a mix of secondary schools so it should be easy to find one that will suit even the pickiest of children and parents.

Other activities and facilities in the area include the Medway Park Leisure Centre, which has a number of swimming pools and there are plenty of water-based clubs to get involved with and make new friends.

Of course there is also Gillingham Football Club - the only Kent-based team in the football league. The side has had mixed fortunes over the years but last year gained promotion to Championship League One.

In terms of shopping, Gillingham has plenty to offer, with a regular street market selling a whole host of goods - both nationally and locally produced.

The area also has a mix of chain stores and some smaller independent retailers, so can fulfil most retail needs.

One of the annual highlights for the town is the Will Adams Festival. Held in September, the event celebrates the life of Adams, who was born in Gillingham in 1564, and established the first trade link between England and Japan.

Running since 2000, the festival celebrates the culture and traditions of Japan and its influence on the UK.ADNFCR-1222-ID-801718881-ADNFCR
