Smart meter roll-out to benefit property to rent in Kent?

Houses to rent in Kent may receive a helping hand in becoming more energy efficient in the coming years.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change hopes to install "smart" electricity and gas meters in all homes in Great Britain between 2014 and 2019.

Tenants can use the meters to monitor their energy use and provide more accurate meter readings.

Energy suppliers will be responsible for the cost of installing the meters and are expected to pass efficiency savings onto customers, a plan which could make property to rent in Kent cheaper to run.

Consumer Focus energy expert Zoe McLeod says the meters have significant potential benefits for consumers if the roll-out is conducted efficiently.

Landlords hoping to offer more eco-friendly rental homes could consider investment in solar panels, which can be installed on the roof of a property.

Kent offers an ideal climate for the use of solar panels due to the long sunny spells the county experiences in the summer months.ADNFCR-1222-ID-800607591-ADNFCR
