Shop around for best value home insurance

People planning to buy houses for sale in 2011 have been urged to shop around when insuring their property.

Failing to switch home insurance providers for the best deal has cost British homeowners £1.7 billion, according to Confused.com.

On average, people can save £96.43 per year when shopping around for home insurance prices.

A suvey by the comparison site revealed that 20 per cent of people cannot be bothered to switch, while 11 per cent think the process is too complicated.

Commenting on the findings, Mark Gabriel, head of home insurance at Confused.com, said: "There are still valid savings to be made.

"Shopping around can not only ensure the best value for money deal, but can also prompt householders to ensure they have the right level of cover."

Loyalty to one insurer doesn't pay, he added.

Greenlight has predicted that more homeowners will search online for insurance in 2011, reports Policyexpert.
