Sell new homes to landlords, says BPF

Sell new homes to landlords, says BPF

The British property market needs to end its obsession with owner-occupying and move more towards the buy-to-let market when it comes to new builds to increase demand and subsequently sales, an organisation has claimed.

The British Property Foundation (BPF) was reacting to figures released by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), which said that the number of house building projects that were started in 2012 fell short of the 100,000 mark, 11 per cent down on the year before.

It has led to calls for capitalisation on the blooming rental market, which has gone from strength to strength in the last few years thanks to the levels of demand that exist for this kind of lifestyle.

"To improve overall housing supply it needs to be affordable, does not require access to mortgage finance and not put undue strain on tight public finances. An institutional funded professional rented sector, building to let, ticks all these boxes," said Ian Fletcher, director of Policy at the BPF.ADNFCR-1222-ID-801546313-ADNFCR
