Property for sale in Yorkshire: York and Whitby voted favourites

Homebuyers could soon be flocking to view houses for sale in Yorkshire after two of the region's towns were judged among some of the nation's favourites.

York topped the Rough Guides poll of Britain's favourite small cities and towns, with Whitby coming in seventh place.

The county was the only region to have two entries in the top ten – meaning property for sale in Yorkshire could be set for a demand boost.

Houses for sale in Bath could be popular as it took second place in the list, while Brighton stole third position.

Small historic cities are often popular with buyers due to their ancient attractions and sites, such as York Minster.

The travel guide firm was pleased with the destinations that made the top ten, with a spokesperson claiming they reflected "Britain's charms".

He explained: "There's a lot of history in there, a good bit of architecture and arts, but there's also the seaside - in both its brash and beautiful guises."
