Politician calls for more London housing

More property should be available in the capital, according to one politician.

Commenting on the issue, London Assembly member for Ealing and Hillingdon Richard Barnes said there needs to be more houses for sale in London, the Uxbridge Gazette reports.

He noted that the city has a shortage of homes, adding: "Yet, absurdly, the government announced this week that it is giving almost every other region in the country more money for the construction of affordable homes than the capital."

Mr Barnes went on to point out that London will receive central funding through the Kick Start initiative which will enable it to construct around 114 affordable residences.

In contrast, investment in property for sale in Manchester and other north-west areas will be more than double this, he claimed.

Recently, David Bexon, managing director of SmartNewHomes.com, suggested that the rise in demand for new-build London homes has been led by owner-occupiers.
