Neighbourhood Watch and low-crime elements 'sway buyers'

People looking for homes in many cases opt for areas with traditionally low crime levels and neighbourhood schemes, it has been suggested.

Rightmove noted that while other factors obviously play a part, such as the vicinity of the home to friends and family, these other aspects are on the house buyer's agenda.

Those locations with proven track records in terms of low crime will always prove popular with homebuyers, commercial director at the company Miles Shipside noted.

"Location has always been particularly important and it's probably the more traditional locations that have the better track records," he commented.

Mr Shipside added that the presence of a neighbourhood watch scheme could well persuade consumers to choose a particular area.

On top of these, home insurance premiums are likely to be lower in these districts, he contended.

In total, 78 per cent of homeowners have had a falling out with their neighbour, a recent poll from fish4 jobs found.ADNFCR-1222-ID-18558568-ADNFCR
