More young men looking to buy

A new study has shown that high percentage of young men who do not currently own a home are looking to do so in the next year.

According to the Post Office survey, 36 per cent of young men are hoping to purchase some time in the near future, compared to just 32 per cent of young women.

Mike Cook, head of mortgages at Post Office, said: "Our research also shows it is younger women who are willing to compromise to get onto the housing ladder. Whilst young men prefer to buy their new "bachelor pad" completely furnished, young women are happy to take on a DIY project."

It was also confirmed by the Post Office that men feel that they can build up more of a deposit, estimating that they can save 18 per cent, compared to just 16 per cent for women.

This is the biggest hurdle for most first timers these days, with many lenders looking for 20 to 25 per cent deposits in recent years.ADNFCR-1222-ID-801398835-ADNFCR
