More people could buy houses for sale in 2011

The number of people planning to buy houses for sale in the UK could rise in 2011.

More mortgage brokers saw an increase in business in the final months of 2010, according to Co-operative Financial Services.

The latest Index of Mortgage Intermediaries shows the number of brokers who saw increased trade rose by seven points compared to quarter three.

Lenders made more products available for intermediaries to offer to people planning to buy property for sale in the UK.

In addition, 28 per cent of intermediaries feel positive about growth in the the buy to let sector in 2011, according to the index, researched by Platform and research organisation BDRC.

Lee Gladwell, business development director at Platform, said: "Brokers are optimistic about their business prospects in 2011.

"[The] buy to let business is set to be a focus for intermediaries throughout the course of 2011 and it is important for lenders to support them in these areas."
