More landlords going extra mile for tenants

An AA Home Membership survey has revealed that one in five landlords have returned home from a holiday to help a tenant, while 16 per cent have left a special family event to do the same.

The research could suggest a shift in the attitudes of UK landlords, who often do not have the best reputation.

Over half (seven out of ten) said they had drastically changed their plans to accommodate the needs of a tenant who required repairs carried out on a buy to let property.

Helen Brooker, head of AA Home Membership said: "Being a landlord is time consuming, especially as they’re on call 24 hours a day. Landlords often get a bad reputation for not helping out their tenants when they’re needed, but our research shows that’s often not the case.”

"Only a third of the landlords we polled use a lettings agent. That means that there are a lot of landlords out there who are the first port of call when their tenant has a problem,” she added.ADNFCR-1222-ID-801686716-ADNFCR
