Many Brits failing to make basic winter checks at home

The majority of people know how their buy-to-let and bought houses can be badly affected by weather. With dangers such as frozen pipes and floods more prevalent at this time of year though, many are not taking action.

According to new data released by Sainsbury's, as many as 37 per cent of people in the UK have suffered damage to their home as a result of the colder weather, but in spite of the £453.98 average repair bill, only 38 per cent have done anything to protect the properties this year.

Some of the most important things to do can include; ensuring that an insurance policy is robust, taking time to make sure your boiler is serviced and functioning, and to check that the roof is in good condition and not letting water in.

David Barrett of Sainsbury's Home Insurance said: "There are a number of measures that homeowners can take to minimise the risk of falling victim to winter-weather damage to their home."ADNFCR-1222-ID-801501504-ADNFCR
