Houses to rent in Brixton set for 'Olympic' boost in demand

Owners of houses for rent in Brixton will benefit from unprecedented demand as the Olympic Games 2012 draws closer.

Demand for property to rent in London during the Olympic Games has increased 131 times compared to figures from last year, according to HomeAway.co.uk.

The holiday rentals specialist has indicated that homeowners could generate an average of £4,500 by renting their home during the 16 day-long event.

Properties closer to the main Olympic site will face the greatest demand, while those nearby transport hubs such as the tube or DLR will also prove popular.

The company's UK general manager, Tim Boughton, explained: "Enquiries for London properties have skyrocketed, particularly those properties in close proximity to the key Olympics sites and with good transport links to London's top attractions."

Demand for Brixton lettings may also have been boosted by an increase in the number of workers linked to the capital needing a place to stay.

According to the Olympic Delivery Authority, over 40,000 people have worked on the construction of the Olympic Park and Village since building began.ADNFCR-1222-ID-800634552-ADNFCR
