Houses for sale in Essex 'popular among homebuyers'

There has been a rise in the number of people purchasing houses for sale in Essex, a report has shown.

According to the Halifax Property Sales Hotspot Review, Ilford in Essex is the most popular place in the country for homebuyers.

Data showed that there has been an 85 per cent increase in the number of transactions during the first six months of 2010 compared with the same period the previous year.

The findings, released yesterday (September 30th 2010), also revealed that other Essex towns of Croydon and Maidenhead saw the next biggest rises, with a 73 per cent and a 71 per cent increase respectively.

Halifax housing economist Suren Thiru said that the rise in the number of houses purchased in these areas could be down to their close proximity to the capital, stating that they all "have good commuter links to central London".

Hometrack recently reported that over the last three months there has been a rise of 7.2 per cent in the number of houses coming onto the property market. ADNFCR-1222-ID-800095288-ADNFCR
