House prices to rise this year, say homeowners

Homeowners have predicted that houses for sale in the UK will rise in value over the next six months.

According to a survey released by Zoopla.co.uk, 54 per cent of property owners have said they expect home values to increase during the first half of 2011.

This is compared with 33 per cent who predict that houses for sale will fall in price during the same period.

Those who believe property values will rise think their own houses will increase in price by 2.5 per cent over the next six months, while they have predicted that homes across the UK will rise in value on average by 1.9 per cent.

Zoopla.co.uk's spokesman Nicholas Leeming said: "There is every reason to expect confidence to grow as this year progresses."

Last month, Nationwide reported that there was a 0.4 per cent increase in property values in December 2010, compared with the previous month. ADNFCR-1222-ID-800332714-ADNFCR
