House prices in south-west London 'most expensive'

Properties for sale in south-west London have been highlighted as the most expensive in England and Wales.

According to Lloyds TSB, Parkside in Merton has on average the most costly houses in the country, with the price of a residence coming in at around £5,058,000.

Research from Halifax also found that other areas in the SW19 postcode area are also expensive locations to buy homes, with Merton's Cedar Park Gardens being named the seventh priciest street.

Housing economist at Halifax Nitesh Patel said that the influx of "ultra wealthy foreign businessmen" is helping to boost house prices in the area.

He also noted that the biggest concentration of costly properties is in Kensington and Chelsea, where more than half of the 20 most expensive streets in England and Wales are.

This comes after Halifax's County House Price Survey released last week reported that many of the areas in the UK with the greatest growth in property prices are in the south-east of England. ADNFCR-1222-ID-800322433-ADNFCR
