Home sales on the up in the UK

The number of houses being sold in the UK is on the up according to new data released by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (Rics).

Despite a report earlier this week saying that the number of mortgages approved during February had hit a seven-month low, according to e.surv, Rics said that the number of houses sold through estate agents hit a two-year high during the month.

On average, each company registered with the organisation sold 17 homes throughout this time, with Rics believing that this can largely be credited to the fact that overall lending has increased since the government injected funding last August.

Peter Bolton King, Rics residential director, said: "It is encouraging to see that the housing market now appears to be picking up across most parts of the UK despite ongoing concerns about the health of the economy."

However, he was quick to add that the rise in sales of homes at the moment does not yet constitute what could be thought of as a "housing boom".ADNFCR-1222-ID-801554987-ADNFCR
