Govt scheme means more houses for sale in the UK

Cash bonuses will be awarded to communities building new homes for sale in the UK under a new government scheme.

The Department for Communities and Local Government has announced plans to reward homebuilding with up to £200 million to encourage people to back developers.

Almost £1 billion has been set aside for the New Homes Bonus scheme, and communities will get to decide how to spend the money awarded to them.

Housing minister Grant Shapps said: "We need to get the country building again.

"That's why we are introducing powerful new incentives giving communities a reason to say yes to new homes."

Approximately 14,000 homes will be built each year for the next decade, according to government predictions.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) has welcomed the focus the government is placing on building new houses.

However, Rics argues that clarification of the planning system, more land or housing and sustainable construction methods are also needed to build more homes.ADNFCR-1222-ID-800413835-ADNFCR
