Government to deliver green advice for homeowners

Homeowners and tenants will be told how to make their houses more energy efficient as part of a new government scheme.

Tailored advice on how to make homes greener and save money on energy costs will be delivered direct to people's doors, according to the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Through the government's Green Deal, companies offering services to make homes more eco-friendly will be able to access energy performance certificates in order to deliver specific advice to homeowners and tenants.

Communities minister Andrew Stunnel said: "It's right that homeowners and tenants across the country are given the opportunity to make their homes warmer and cheaper to run.

"The Green Deal will lead to a revolution in energy efficiency of homes across the country."

Announced today, the new scheme has been welcomed by Consumer Focus, which said the scheme was "good news".

However, head of energy for the consumer body, Audrey Gallacher, said it was important for the government to ensure data about people's homes is protected throughout the process.ADNFCR-1222-ID-800375299-ADNFCR
