Government needs to act now for housing

The British housing market could face years of first timers unable to get onto the property ladder if the government does not do all it can to boost the affordability of a home, it has been warned.

Earlier this week, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation said that it predicted there will be another 1.5 million first-time buyers forced into the rental market by 2020 because they cannot afford to buy.

Katy John, press officer for PricedOut, said that the issue could last for years, unless the government boosts house building, social housing and other affordability issues.

"Conditions will continue to be very challenging indeed for young people - and indeed families - across the UK for decades to come, unless proper action is taken now."

She said that debt issues which mostly affect those who are going through university could also be a contributing factor in years to come.ADNFCR-1222-ID-801386305-ADNFCR
