Good tenants 'valuable' for buy-to-let landlords

Finding good tenants for a property can prove to be very valuable for buy-to-let landlords, it has been asserted.

Tessa Shepperson, solicitor at LandlordLaw.co.uk, explained that a good tenant is "a valuable thing to have" and landlords may need to be understanding with some renters at the present time given the current economic difficulties.

She noted that, with people losing their jobs, it can benefit landlords in the long term if they are understanding about the situation rather than reacting in a heavy-handed manner.

Ms Shepperson pointed out that a tenant who is treated well by their landlord will be "grateful" and consequently take better care of the property they are living in.

"I don't think it would do the landlord any harm [to be sympathetic] with the right tenant," she said.

In October last year, the National Landlords Association reported that almost three-quarters of landlords have seen tenants fall into arrears, with 43 per cent stating that this had happened during the previous 12 months.ADNFCR-1222-ID-19593242-ADNFCR
