Glasgow conference to be addressed by Olympic regeneration boss

The man responsible for delivering London's Olympic legacy targets is to address an urban regeneration conference on how Glasgow can use the forthcoming 2014 Commonwealth Games to revive the east of the city.

Group director for Olympic legacy at the London Development Agency Tom Russell will be at the Going for Gold conference to share the experiences of London and also those of 2002 Commonwealth Games hosts Manchester in using the event to bring about urban renewal, 24dash reports.

This sort of renewal includes economic development and also the creation of new homes, the intention being to make these areas more attractive ones in which to live and work.

Should Glasgow be able to apply the experiences of the two English cities successfully, this could help raise house prices in the city, create opportunities for those buying for investment and provide more homes for first-time buyers.

The decision to award Glasgow the games was announced in the Sri Lankan city of Colombo in November 2007.
