Find food and history aplenty in pretty Ludlow

The market town of Ludlow is situated in the English county of Shropshire, but it is also very close to the Welsh border and so could offer families an excellent place to settle as a compromise between the two.

Its proximity to Wales has led to Ludlow being an important strategic site during wars many centuries ago - indeed, it was captured by the Lancastrians during the Wars of the Roses, before being swiftly taken back by the House of York.

Today, anyone looking for property in Ludlow will still get a strong sense of its history, with the 11th century medieval wall in particular dominating one area of town and various examples of Tudor half-timbered buildings dotted around the picturesque medieval streets.

However, the town is also well linked up to the more modern aspects of life, with the bypass of the A49 trunk road offering access to Shrewsbury and Hereford for work or play.

Public transport is good too, as regular bus services operate to Shrewsbury, Knighton and Kidderminster and the railway station is only around five minutes' walk from the town centre, meaning commuters shouldn't have too arduous a journey.

Meanwhile, families with children can ensure they get a good education with plenty of good schools nearby, including Ludlow Junior School, Ludlow Infants School and Ludlow Church of England School for the older ones.

In terms of things to do here, the key thing is to check out Ludlow's gastronomic treats, as it is famed for its excellent range of restaurants and even has an annual food festival that visits each September, as well as its own brewery for craft ales.

Once everyone has eaten their fill, other local attractions include the Ironbridge Gorge Museums - to discover more about Ludlow's Industrial Revolution heritage - the ruins of the country house Witley Court, fortified manor house Stokesay Castle and the town of Shrewsbury, where shopping opportunities abound.

As you can see, this is a town that has much to offer for all ages.ADNFCR-1222-ID-801767581-ADNFCR
