Explore the history of Bristol

Bristol is one of the most popular cities in the UK thanks to its history and excellent living standards which help to provide a home to tens of thousands of happy residents.

As the sixth most populous city in the UK, families have moved in search of properties for sale in Bristol for many different reasons, including its connections to other major places in the south of the country.

It is just two hours from London, the Midlands and Cornwall, while Cardiff and Newport can be reached in just half an hour - making it the ideal location for commuting to Wales.

The M4 motorway runs all the way to the capital city, passing close to Swindon and Reading, while the M5 provides links to Gloucester, Worcester and Birmingham to the north, along with Weston-super-Mare, Burnham-on-Sea, Taunton and Exeter to the south.

The University of Bristol, which boasts graduates including Matt Lucas, Simon Pegg and David Walliams, has previously been named among the world's top 30 by QS World University Rankings, with more students choosing to stay in the city after graduation than almost any other city.

As a bustling city there is plenty going on to entertain both newcomers and those taking their next step on the property ladder. A vibrant arts and music scene is enjoyed by many, while the city's history is worthwhile exploring.

Just outside of Bristol there are areas such as North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bath, which offer everything from quaint country cottages to dockland developments boasting all the modern features you would expect.

In terms of jobs, the aerospace sector plays a large role in and around Bristol, while a £500 million shopping centre called Cabot Circus opened back in 2008. As one of the UK's major cities there are also opportunities in finance, marketing, education and health.
