Estate agents 'seeing high demand for expensive homes'

There is currently significant demand for expensive properties in the UK, it has been claimed.

According to Nigel Ellis, director at Pricket & Ellis, the market for homes worth £600,000 and above is healthy and there are not enough of such residences to go around.

His comments come in the wake of the release of statistics from Primelocation.com, which revealed that annual growth for the prime residence sector was six per cent last month.

The firm also showed that the typical price of a prime home in Britain was £449,095, which was a rise of 3.7 per cent on the same month in 2009.

Meanwhile, platinum property was found to average £618,706 last month.

Mr Ellis stated: "If a lot [of homes] came on the market we would definitely have a drop in prices but ... I don't think that's what is happening, no-one's having to sell, most people seem happy where they are."
