Eco-friendly incentive to boost interest in houses for sale in Witney?

A new renewable energy incentive may see more buyers looking at property for sale in Witney to find their ideal countryside home.

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), announced in March, will help to reduce fuel bills for the owners of houses for sale in Oxfordshire and other rural areas, according to Knight Frank.

Under the scheme, rural property owners will receive an index-linked quarterly payment for each unit of heat energy produced using renewable technologies. Homeowners are able to join the RHI from October 2012.

The scheme could see house hunters eyeing up houses for sale in Witney as rural homes look set to become more affordable in terms of running costs and utility bills.

According to David Parry-Jones, Knight Frank's green-energy specialist, the RHI could reduce UK carbon emissions by as much as 44 million tonnes – the equivalent of 20 new gas-fired power stations.

The expert claims the incentive holds financial benefits for homeowners facing mounting fuels bills too.

He explained: "From the property-owner's perspective, whatever their views on climate change, fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas are becoming more expensive, with larger houses costing tens of thousands of pounds to heat each year."

The payments are available for several renewable technologies, including biomass boilers, ground source heat and solar thermal systems.

Chossing the right system depends on property age, size and type, Mr Parry-Jones explains.

He added: "Not all technologies are suitable for all types of property, and expert advice is needed for older and historic buildings."

Homeowners can install the renewable energy equipment now, in preparation for claiming RHI payments, or wait until the domestic tariff is available next year.

Property for sale in Witney may prove the ideal retreat for homeowners looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
