Discover the joy of Cheddar

Cheddar is world famous for its cheese but it could also offer a lot more to people looking to relocate in Somerset.

With varied property for sale in Cheddar, the large village could be the ideal destination for those looking to downsize and move away from the hustle and bustle of larger urban areas.

Home to around 5,000 people, the village is surrounded by lovely countryside and has a wide choice of walks that are perfect for glorious summer days.

Cheddar Gorge is also located in the region. It is the largest gorge in the UK and is a popular tourist attraction - welcoming more than half a million visitors every year.

The gorge is the site of the Cheddar show caves, where Britain's oldest complete human skeleton, Cheddar Man, estimated to be over 9,000 years old, was found.

The caves, produced by the activity of an underground river, contain amazing stalactites and stalagmites, and have been classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Back in the village, the strong history of the region can also be found in a number of key landmarks, such as the 15th century market cross and the Church of St Andrew.

There is also the only remaining producer of Cheddar cheese in the village and visitors are invited to come along and find out more about how the product is made.

Although Cheddar offers a number of local shops for the basic supplies, potential residents will be pleased to discover that there are good transport links to shopping areas in bigger towns. Cheddar provides a bus link to Weston-Super-Mare and Wells, and good links to the motorways nearby.

For those looking for sporting facilities, the Kings Fitness and Leisure centre, situated on the grounds of The Kings of Wessex School, provides a venue for various sports and includes a 20-metre swimming pool, racket sport courts, a sports hall, dance studios and a gym.

There is also a recently built skate park in the village that may appeal to teenagers. ADNFCR-1222-ID-801715502-ADNFCR
