Concerns rising over home insurance costs

British consumers are becoming increasingly sensitive to variations in the cost of their home insurance premiums, according to recent research.

Figures compiled by the Consumer Intelligence (CI) company show that recent months have seen the sharpest rise in interest regarding the competitiveness of particular home insurance deals.

Based on its findings, CI suggests that an increasing number of people in the UK will be turning to price comparison websites to find out how their own home insurance policy compares with others on the market in months to come.

"Consumers long ago woke up to the fact that they can save serious money on their motor insurance by switching providers," said Ian Hughes, CI's managing director.

"It was only a matter of time before they applied the same principle to home insurance."

A report from Halifax Home Insurance recently suggested that one in four people in the UK underestimate the costs associated with making home refurbishments.
