Cheddar offers more than cheese

Cheddar offers more than cheese

The Somerset village of Cheddar is famous worldwide for its cheese but it also offers a great place to live.

It has just 5,000 villagers but has a lovely community feel and is based in one of the most attractive regions in the UK.

Outdoor fans will be impressed by the magnificent Cheddar Gorge, which is a stunning limestone pathway that makes its way through the Mendip Hills.

It is also the location of the Cheddar caves that offer a unique underground experience. The formation of the spectacular caves is thought to have begun around 500,000 years ago when water started dissolving the limestone rock. Open every day apart from Christmas, the caves are well worth visiting.

Families looking for an active day out will enjoy Cheddar Wood, which is home to a wide range of wildlife. There is also a number of other nature hotspots, such as Blagdon Lake and the Chew Valley.

Those looking to get involved should look at joining one of the many clubs on offer, such as the Cheddar Vale Lions Club, Mendip Rotary and Mendip Inner Wheel Club. There are also opportunities to help organise a number of regular and popular events such as a dragon boat race and an annual firework display.

There is also the Kings Fitness & Leisure which is located within the grounds of The Kings of Wessex School. It offers the chance to partake in various sports and includes a 20-metre swimming pool, racket sport courts, a sports hall, dance studios and a gym.

One of the other advantages of Cheddar is that it has good transport links and is around five miles away from the M5 motorway - so it is ideal for those having to travel outside the area for work.

With lots of property for sale in Cheddar, families relocating to the area will have the perfect opportunity to discover their dream home and take advantage of all the great facilities the region has to offer.ADNFCR-1222-ID-801697843-ADNFCR
