An insurance firm is urging people to change the locks on their new home after buying houses for sale in the UK.

The average Brit owns nine keys but doesn't know what at least thee of them are for, according to esure.

Research by the home insurance firm has revealed that a fifth of homeowners keep the keys to their old home after they have moved.

Nikki Sellers, head of home insurance at esure, said: "Changing locks when moving house or after losing keys can be a hassle, but it's an investment that will lead to greater peace of mind and help avoid a potentially unpleasant experience."
