Call for more retirement properties to be built across the UK

A think tank has called for the government to offer funding that would see a greater number of retirement properties built to accommodate those looking to downsize in their latter years.

The think tank Demos reports that there are some 58 per cent of retirees who would like to sell their home and move to something smaller, but fear not being able to find anything suitable or having to live in a neighbourhood that does not suit them.

It added that providing retirement communities would not only improve conditions for older people, but help to boost the property sector as a whole.

The think tank said that it would free up 3.2 million homes, including three-bedroom options that would be far more suitable to families.

It believes that this would help provide health to the bottom end of the ladder, assisting first timers and second steppers in particular by simply bringing more stock to market.ADNFCR-1222-ID-801639202-ADNFCR
