Buyers prepared to pay for sea views

New research has found that sea views are hot property in the UK, with one in five Brits prepared to pay more than 20 per cent for a house overlooking the ocean and almost half willing to fork out up to ten per cent more.

The survey from propertyfinder.com also revealed that Brighton is the UK's favoured seaside property destination, followed by Bournemouth, Porthcawl, Southend-on-the-Sea and Christchurch.

Nick Leeming, the website's major clients director, commented: "It is a good sign that house hunters are still willing to pay top dollar for homes with sea views; it would seem that the turbulence in the property market recently hasn't completely destroyed consumer confidence."

He noted that these findings are also a bonus for people who already own homes on the coast, which can still command high prices in a flagging market.

The most expensive seaside location in the UK is Sandbanks in Dorset, according to a recent HBOS study, where the average house price is £628,014.
