Buy to let demand 'to stay strong'

Buy to let demand 'to stay strong'

A private rental sector expert has told buy to let landlords to expect strong demand over the next few months, thanks in part to government cutbacks in social accommodation and housing benefit.

Independent analyst Malcolm Harrison explained that the current shortage of council-owned housing stock is likely to be exacerbated when the impact of the coalition's recent comprehensive spending review begins to bite.

"There's a shortage of rental stock which has been pushing up rental demand over the last few months anyway. The private rented sector is going to take the strain of all three sectors of the housing market," he said.

Mr Harrison added that it will be up to the buy to let market to meet the housing needs which local authorities can no longer afford to and said that many tenants will be left with no choice but to rent privately.

A recent survey by property investment group Paragon revealed that landlords are confident about their future prospects.ADNFCR-1222-ID-800137824-ADNFCR
