Building proposals welcomed

New government proposals to hit illegal builders with harsher penalties have been welcomed by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB).

The plans should mean that both honest builders and homeowners see the benefits and improved constructions, the organisation claimed.

Director of external affairs at the FMB Brian Berry said The Future of Building Control recommendations paper is good because the "reputation" of the industry is tarnished by bad construction.

"We also fully support the government's intention to move towards a more planned approach to building regulation by clearly signposting changes and making them at the same time once every three years," he commented.

He added that "time and money" ought to be saved after the changes while it will be easier for members to comply with regulations, he argued. The proposals were made public by housing minister Caroline Flint who said the new system will be beneficial to householders and the industry.ADNFCR-1222-ID-18514513-ADNFCR
