Bristol: A city for foodies and culture vultures

One of the most famous cities in the south, Bristol always has something going on. It is known for its spectacular arts and culture scene, and does not disappoint with a packed schedule of events, festivals, and gigs.

Culture vultures can explore Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, which hosts fascinating permanent and temporary exhibitions. A quick glance at the city’s calendar reveals a host of historical exhibitions, plays, art shows, musicals and photography events.

Bristol also boasts a prominent cuisine scene, making it the perfect spot for any foodies. Not only are there a range of vibrant eateries to enjoy, but there are also plenty of events for food-lovers to enjoy, from the thriving Eat Drink Bristol Fashion pop-up village in late April, to VegFest Bristol 2014, which is happening at the end of March.

People who want to experience the highlights of Bristol can opt for one of the city’s many tours. Some of the best include Bristol Highlights Walking Tour, Bristol Packet Boat Trips, Bristol Pirate Walks, Avon River Cruises and Boat Trips and Number Seven Boat Trips.

Art-lovers will not want to pass up on the chance to visit “See No Evil” - a stretch of road which street artists from around the world have transformed into a stunning permanent art project.

Another highlight is The Matthew - a replica of John Cabot’s 1497 ship that he used to discover Newfoundland, which is available for visits and cruises around the harbour.

The New Room - the oldest methodist building in the world - is also popular with visitors. It was originally built by John Wesley in 1739, shortly after he arrived in Bristol. This building is famed for being one of the locations in which the early roots of Methodism were established, and was also used as a meeting house, school and medicine dispensary. ADNFCR-1222-ID-801680743-ADNFCR
