Bovey Tracey could be The Gateway to your Devonshire home needs

Bovey Tracey could be The Gateway to your Devonshire home needs

Bovey Tracey, dubbed 'The Gateway to the Moor' due to its proximity to the Dartmoor National Park, is a small Devonshire town with plenty to offer potential residents.

The town takes the initial part of its name thanks to the nearby location of the River Bovey while it later added the second part thanks to the De Tracey family who were lords of the manor following the Norman conquest. The town has a real foothold in English history with an infamous battle taking place in one of the town's inns between the Royalists and the Roundheads.

Now however, inns within the town offer a much more pleasant and welcome experience than that experienced by the Royalist troops all those centuries ago. The town has a number of small, friendly public houses where the community congregates and the strong spirit within the town is maintained.

The town's proximity to the coast as well as good farming land means that tasty, local food is always high on the menu. Such pubs are plentiful in and around the Dartmoor area.

There are plenty of attractions to keep residents and visitors occupied in around the town. Interesting places to visit include the heritage centre located in the old train station, the House of Marbles which showcases the areas marble history, the Devon Guild of Craftsmen's headquarters as well as the Headquarters of the Dartmoor National Park Authority.

Those looking for more energetic pursuits will be pleased to hear that 'Buvvy' is the start point for the Dartmoor Devil cycling race which encompasses large areas of Dartmoor. The town also has its own football club, Bovey A.F.C.

Bovey really is one of Devon's hidden gems and provides a rich, wholesome experience for those who live there. Looking for property for sale in Bovey Tracey is unlikely to be something you regret. ADNFCR-1222-ID-800779351-ADNFCR
