Barking offers capital alternative

Barking offers capital alternative

The east London borough of Barking and Dagenham could offer central city dwellers a more affordable alternative.

With a wide choice of property for sale in Barking to suit various budgets, the area is very attractive to those who work in the capital and also enjoy being near London's many attractions.

However, it also offers a bit more space than the very in demand central properties even though the daily commute remains manageable.

Barking is around 8.8 miles from Charing Cross station and it has a lot of transport links so workers can easily make the trip into the city.

There are regular overground, underground and bus services from Barking that are very popular with commuters.

Of course it may not always be necessary to take the trip into London as Barking has certainly benefited from major regeneration in recent years.

Revamped in 2008, Barking's central town square has been named as one of the top urban public spaces in Europe. London 2012 has also helped to boost the area's profile and facilities.

This means it is now home to a great retail area which provides an alternative to the busier central London shopping areas.

Barking is served by a number of pubs, including big name chains like JD Wetherspoon, so there is often no need to travel into the capital during the weekend - making it easier for people to separate work from their home life.

The local Barking Learning Centre is also a great place to meet other people, with a wide range of adult courses so perfect for anyone wanting to discover a new hobby or skill, or perhaps learn a new language.

The town is a popular area for sports, with local residents having the opportunity to get involved at a range of levels with a wide number of such activities, which include the likes of football, cricket, basketball and hockey, all of which are popular pastimes.ADNFCR-1222-ID-801722996-ADNFCR
